Ancient Guardians of the Atlas Mountains

The Aidi is an ancient breed native to North Africa, developed by the Amazigh people across the Atlas Mountains, where they became integral to Amazigh culture for thousands of years.

The Aidi is primarily a livestock guardian — living alongside herds, protecting against predators, assisting with daily herd management, and guiding flocks across nomadic migrations.

"Historical records — from the chronicles of Herodotus to the legendary dogs of the Garamantes kings — document the presence of great guardian dogs in North Africa since ancient times."

Our Story

Reviving the Legendary Breed

In 2020, Samy made the decision to fundamentally change his life. He left his previous path to become a farmer, establishing a property with a working flock of sheep and chickens. It was during this transition that the founder acquired his first Aidi — a female who would become the foundation of everything that followed.

He fell in love with the breed immediately. The Aidi wasn't just well-suited to countryside living; she was perfect for it — her intelligence, balance, and unwavering guardian instinct revealing thousands of years of purpose flowing through her veins.

Today, working alongside other passionate breeders, Samy and Atlas Legends are committed to restoring the Aidi to its original glory. All dogs are FCI registered with pedigrees.

Frequently asked questions

What is an Aidi?

The Aidi, also known as the Atlas Mountain Dog, is an ancient breed native to North Africa, developed by the Amazigh people across the Atlas Mountains. One of the oldest known breeds on the continent, the Aidi has been a fearless guardian of livestock, territory, and family for thousands of years.

What is the Aidi's temperament like?

The Aidi is a highly intelligent and balanced dog. Despite their imposing presence and natural protective instincts, they are not aggressive by nature. They assess situations with remarkable clarity, knowing when to act and when to simply maintain a vigilant watch.

How big do Aidi dogs get?

Atlas Legends dogs typically stand between 60 and 70 centimetres at the shoulder and weigh around 40 to 50 kilograms. This reflects the true size of the original Atlas Mountain Dog.

Is the Aidi the right breed for me?

The Aidi thrives in open spaces — farms and rural properties. They are not suited to apartment living. If you are unsure, we encourage you to reach out — we are always happy to advise honestly, even if that means recommending a different breed.

How do I reserve a puppy?

Contact us through whatsapp. We will review your application and arrange a direct meeting or phone call — mandatory before any reservation or purchase can be confirmed.

What is included with each puppy?

Each puppy leaves with FCI pedigree papers, a health book with vaccination and deworming records, a microchip, a starter supply of food, and a comprehensive care guide covering nutrition, training, behaviour, and health maintenance.

Are your dogs FCI registered?

Yes. All Atlas Legends dogs are FCI registered with pedigrees, ensuring complete traceability of lineage and compliance with international breeding standards.

Where are you located?

Atlas Legends is located in the Bir Jdid area of Morocco.

Can I visit the kennel?

Visits are welcome but must be arranged in advance. Please contact us through the website or via WhatsApp to schedule an appointment.
